First, let's go to Tsuruga Castle (Wakamatsu Castle), the symbol of Aizu. Tsuruga Castle was the home of the Aizu clan, which fought bravely in the Boshin War, and has a beautiful white stone wall and black castle tower. The castle tower has a historical museum where you can learn about the history and culture of the Aizu clan. There is also a tea room and a garden inside the castle, where you can spend a relaxing time.

Next, head to Mt. Iimori, the site of the sad story of the Byakkotai. Iimoriyama is the place where the boys of the Byakkotai who were defeated in the Boshin War killed themselves. At the top of the mountain, there is the Byakkotai Memorial Hall and the Byakkotai Graveyard, where you can remember their courage and tragedy. In addition, from Iimoriyama, you can overlook the city of Aizuwakamatsu and Tsuruga Castle.

Finally, let's stop by Aizu Sazaedo, a strange building with separate ascending and descending stairs³. Aizu Sazaedo is a Buddhist temple that was built in the Edo period and is shaped like a three-storied pagoda. There are 33 statues of Kannon enshrined inside, and it is said that if you go around them, your wishes will come true. In addition, you can enjoy the scenery of Mt. Iimori and Tsuruga Castle from Sazaedo.
