Kumano Nachi Taisha is a shrine located on Mt. Nachi in Wakayama Prefecture. Together with Kumano Hayatama Taisha and Kumano Hongu Taisha, it is known as the Kumano Sanzan, and has been worshiped by many people since ancient times. Kumano Nachi Taisha has developed as a center of Kumano faith along with Nachisan Seiganto-ji Temple. Kumano Nachi Taisha has a very long history, and it is said that it started when the Nude Shonin, who came from India during the reign of Emperor Nintoku, enshrined the twelve Gongen. After that, famous people such as Kukai and Minamoto no Yoritomo visited the shrine. In the precincts of Kumano Nachi Taisha, there are buildings and sculptures designated as national treasures and important cultural properties. The most famous waterfall in Japan is Nachi Falls, which has a drop of 133 meters. Nachi Falls is considered a sacred place as Hitaki Shrine, and you can get close to the basin of the waterfall. Nachi Falls presents a beautiful sight in every season. Kumano Nachi Taisha is an attractive sightseeing spot where nature, history and culture are fused.
