Kintaikyo Bridge

Kintaikyo Bridge in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture is a beautiful wooden bridge that is counted as one of Japan's three most famous bridges. It was built in 1673 by Hiroyoshi Yoshikawa, the feudal lord of Iwakuni, and has endured floods from the Nishiki River. The appearance of the five arches reflected on the surface of the Nishiki River is like a brocade belt. Kintaikyo Bridge is designated as a national scenic spot, and you can enjoy the scenery of each season.

If you visit Kintaikyo Bridge, be sure to cross the bridge. From the top of the bridge, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Nishiki River, Iwakuni Castle, and the castle town. Also, under the bridge, you can see the timberwork made by traditional construction methods. Since the Kintaikyo Bridge is made of wood, it is regularly repaired and replaced. At that time, you can also visit part of the bridge.

Around the Kintaikyo Bridge, there are cultural facilities such as the Kintaikyo Historical Museum and the Iwakuni Museum of Art, as well as restaurants where you can enjoy specialties such as Iwakuni Sushi and Kintaikyo Manju. You can also see the Kintaikyo Bridge from a different angle on a pleasure boat or a rental cycle. Kintaikyo Bridge is a tourist spot where you can feel the charm of Japanese tradition and nature.
